Nelly Kate builds an evocative contrast of bright melodies against the darkest realities of life.  Nestled in Richmond, with four solid tours under her wings, she has just finished her first analog recording, 'ISH ISH.'  Layered among textural arrangements--of Casiotones and guitars, typewriters and music boxes--are her intricate and elegiac lyrics.  Listeners are enveloped by Nelly's haunting soundscapes that ever-build toward an intimate catharsis.  Despite her undeniable brush with poetry and literature, the fabric of her aesthetic is profoundly influenced by visual artists like Maya Deren, Peter Zumthor, Joe Sacco, and Henri Cartier-Bresson.  Her music has led her to share the stage with artists such as: Tune-Yards, Tickley Feather, Pattern Is Movement, and Pat Jordache.  Nelly Kate's independent release of 'ISH ISH' is slated for February 2012.
